Personal Experience About Wine

Ever since I started college, wine has been one of my favorite types of alcohol. Not only because of the lovely different forms wines come in, but because it has been a way to bond with both friends and family. I grew up in Ghana, hence drinking at a younger age than 21 was a normal thing for my family. On New Year's eve, I was allowed one glass of wine at the dinner table, and I only wanted the sweet ones. However, growing up, I have learned to appreciate the different tastes that wine has to offer. Starting out in Freshman year, I used to love pink moscato because it was basic and everyone loved it, but as I grew older, I started experiencing with more wines. When I finally turned 21, I went all out and started buying my wine bottles in bulk at Kroger. This gave me a chance to experiment more with different white wines and red wines. I discovered I liked white wine more than the reds. As of now, I am hooked on chardonnay and Riesling.

Even though I am not a big fan of red wine, I find it best when it is drank with a good meal. When I was in Ghana over winter break, I tried a chocolate South African wine that I liked a lot. It was sweet and amazing with food. Thus, when it comes to red wine, I guess I am shifted more to the sweet side; and when it comes to white wine, I could go either way. I wouldn't really say I am a wine expert but when it comes to recommending wine to friends, I always get good reviews in return. I occasionally hold wine nights at my house where each of my friends bring in different wines and we all drink and vibe. In my opinion, wine has a great way of bringing people together from the way it can make you feel and taste.

While taking this wine class, I hope to learn about the different origins about wine and the different cultures it surrounds. I would like to think that wine has a background bigger than what most people think, so I would like to learn more about that. I am very excited to learn more about wine in this class.
